What is the STEM Festival?
The STEM Festival organized by ZIS is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and math in Cambodia. The interesting presentations about history and languages as well as live music and art performances are available. It is a groundbreaking science and social science event which is open to the public, especially the high school students. We believe that learning does not take place in the classroom only. Students are capable of learning everywhere and every time. It provides an opportunity for engagement and exchange between students, teachers, parents, and local people who are interested in STEM.
History and background
Although it was held on the campus of the school every year before 2014, it was a highly visible and spectacular outdoor event last year. The reason why ZIS launched STEM in 2005 was to increase the awareness and interest for Science and Math among Cambodian youth.
In accordance with the school mission “ ZIS strives to advance academic quality in a safe and supportive environment to enable students to realize their potential develop maturity, responsibility, and awareness of becoming a global citizen”, we aim at bring up individuals who aspire to learn, search and contribute to the environment and society they live in. While the students actively taking part in the event learn how to write project proposals and boost their research, critical thinking and presentation skills, the visitors enjoy exciting hands-on experiences which will spark their imagination and make them appreciate the science and technology much more. Furthermore, this event will be an experience of a lifetime and serve an opportunity to discover new things for the students and the parents. Teachers find this festival very beneficial as their students apply what has been covered in the classes and their learners become active in the course of the preparations and presentations. Universities which attend the event promote their education and attract the attention of the students keen on science, math and technology majors. Besides, there will be on-stage performances, art displays, live experiments, interactive exhibitions and fun games. The STEM Festival is a pivotal step in raising scientifically and technologically smart citizens which will be of great use to the development and the achievement of the nation. Last but not the least, the Cambodian students may develop more enthusiasm and eagerness to engineering, robotics, information and communication technology thanks to the STEM Festival, too. Cambodian kids deserve to be given a chance to peek at their future career opportunities.
